Believe it or not, we are only 18 days away from kickoff! I have been reading various outside predictions for C-USA and FIU, but wanted to know what my fellow Panther fans were expecting for this season. I'll give my game by game predictions for this season, and feel free to do the same, or just an end of year W/L total.

Week 1: FIU: 27 - UCF 38 (L)

I really want the guys the win this game badly, but UCF is becoming a very solid team again and will be tough to beat in the first game with the new coaching staff.

Week 2: Alcorn St: 13 - FIU: 45 (W)

I think the guys come out fired up and the offense explodes.

Week 3: FIU 26 - Indiana 31 (L)

I could see this going either way. FIU should have won last year. I think Indiana wears the guys down in the 4th with the rushing attack.

Week 4: FIU 27 - Rice 14 (W)

Rice isn't very good. FIU should win this one to start 1-0 in C-USA play.

Week 5: Charlotte 28 - FIU 35 (W)

Charlotte is improving. FIU wins a close one to improve to 2-0 in C-USA.

Week 6: FIU 30 - MT 42 (L)

MT is my pick to win C-USA east this year. Their offense will be explosive. This will be tough for FIU to win on the road.

Week 7: Tulane 24 - FIU 28 (W)

I've been hearing good things about Tulane this year. I think this game will be tougher than people think. FIU wins this to finish 2-2 in OOC play.

Week 8: FIU 22 - Marshall 20 (W)

FIU wins a very physical game on the road.

Week 9: UTSA 20 - FIU 28 (W)

UTSA may be the up and coming team out of C-USA west this year. They have been recruiting very well. I like FIU to win at home though.

Week 10: ODU 35 - FIU 17 (L)

ODU fans have been getting very cocky lately and I'm not sure FIU will be able to stop their rushing attack. I would love to see FIU pull this one off, but I don't think it's a good match up.

Week 11: FIU 33 - FAU 30 (W)

I think this game will be superrrr close and am very excited for it. Let's say FIU wins it in OT.

Week 12: WKU 41 - FIU 24 (L)

WKU is still very good. I don't see their offense slowing down much this year.

End of year: 7-5 (5-3 in C-USA) and FIU makes a bowl game. Realistically, I could see anywhere between 5-7 and 8-4.

Agreed. I'll go with 5-7 (though, 6-6 is almost as likely). In general, I think we'll be much more competitive as whole and don't see us getting blown out anywhere. But, still need another year or two of Butch's recruiting before most/every game is a probable win.

Wins: Alcorn State, Rice, Charlotte
Tossups: FAU, Tulane, Marshall, Old Dominion, UTSA
Losses: Middle Tennessee, Western Kentucky, Central Florida, Indiana

Couple notes:

The tossup games I think we'll win: Tulane and Marshall (and hopefully FAU).

However, I really don't know what to make about FAU. I hope they'll be a dumpster fire due to too many JUCOs, "second chance" kids, a lack of depth, and Kiffin. Though, I could also see them being a lot better than last year for all those reasons (except depth).

I stopped doing predictions after our failure of a 2012 "BCS Buster" season. I'd rather just let the season play out as it will.

 that team was receiving Top 25 votes. Only MC could blow that. Muerto that guy but I'll stop.

My only prediction is that we'll win more than 4 games. Many of the predictions 'experts' have us at 3 wins for the year. Give me a break , butch won't tolerate that.

I'm shooting for a 6-6 season. Anywhere from 5-7 to 7-5 expectations. I'm sticking to 6-6 without really looking that much into it. Go Panthers!

My prediction for 2017..

Week 1: @ UCF - L
Week 2: Alcorn St - W
Week 3: @ Indiana - L
Week 4: @ Rice - W
Week 5: Charlotte - W
Week 6: @ MT - L
Week 7: Tulane - L
Week 8: @ Marshall - W
Week 9: UTSA - W
Week 10: ODU - L
Week 11: FAU - W
Week 12: WKU - L

2017 Record: 6-6
WE BOWLING!

Worst case: 4-8 Don't think we do any worse unless there's major injuries
Best case: 7-5 We get some lucky bounces against some of the upper echelon CUSA teams. Don't think we're close to beating UCF or Indiana this year.

We,could have gone 6-6 if we would have fired Turner sooner. I think we go 6-6 this season even though we have the talent for 7-5 maybe 8-4, but a new coaching staff almost always struggles their first year making adjustments.

Hello Fellow Panther Fans,
I haven't posted in a while but I thought the time might be right to do so. I know that when I post my opinion, it often upsets some. Well, here it goes. I can't possibly predict a season's result game by game but I can make a general prognostication about season one in the Butch Davis era. Based on last season's last 2/3 (8 games) of the season (4-4), I firmly believe we will finish 8-4. Let me count the ways:
1. Noted above.
2. More depth, albeit incoming freshmen - and the ability to sub in big fresh bodies on the D-line. At the same time, they will be getting valuable reps and replacing older guys from last year that weren't very good to begin with. UPRADE
3. More experienced, better coached O-line. J. Budwig added helps significantly. UPGRADE
4. Running back talent AND depth. A1, A2, B. Maxwell, D. Price etc... UPGRADE
5. E. Lubin, I. Brown at corners - proven playmakers who will only get better. Impressive incoming freshmen like D. Hall to supplement the backside. UPGRADE
6. A more mature starting QB not forced to throw SIDEWAYS but vertically. Big plays are coming! UPGRADE
7. Incredible linebacker talent AND depth - A. Wint (could end up in the NFL), T. Williams, F. Russ, S. Cooper, S. Lewis etc... UPGRADE
8. More depth at the receiver spots and some recovery at the TE position- with P. McKever, A.J. Sattinger NO SIGNIFICANT UPGRADE
9. Special teams NO SIGNIFICANT UPGRADES apparent.
10. Most importantly - Butch Davis - great, proven coach who helped build winning, dominate programs - quickly. TREMENDOUS UPGRADE
For all these reasons, FIU will finish the season at least 8-4. Hope to hear from y'all. FIUPhil

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't O-line only returning two starters.

Agreed on the rest though, especially 8-4. Bowl game, baby

Every season at least one person says this. No, sorry, true freshman don't (read: rarely) add depth. At least not at school not named Alabama, Ohio State, etc. Players who were freshman 2-3 years ago do. Fortunately, we did bring in JUCOs which does add depth at thin positions such as TE and DL.

Just curious, besides giving Butch more time to recruit, what else would firing Turner earlier have done (I assuming here you mean after the start of the season)? And, I'm not trolling. I think his tenure was a waste of multiple years potential growth for FIU football. Actually curious.

Ok, actually... My optimistic projection is 7-5. Realistically 6-6... worst case scenario, 5-7. So basically we go bowling give or take a game.

Go Panthers!!!

My hunch is that if we go injury-free at QB and the OL, we could scratch and claw, as Panthers are wont to do, to 6-6. Depth is a big issue, both overall and late in games against the stronger teams on the schedule. I think that we will see just where we stand, talent-wise and depth-wise, next Thursday night--that will pretty much predict how the season is going to go. Point is, we are not going to be playing a lot of young guys, except in have-to mode, so we are not going to be a "developing" team this year, IMHO. 2018 will be different in that regard.
