Alcorn State lost 24-20 to USM in 2014. They would be competitive with a lower tier fbs team. That's what we are.

Jose's FG is good. FIU leads 10-7.

FIU takes a 17-10 lead as Alex Gardner just was not having a loss on his bday. GO F I U!

Ok, I know some are freaking out that it was only 17-10 but you have the missed FG the TO fumble at the 2 that would have made it 27-10. Add to that the whole Logistics issue with the hurricane, it was bound to be tough. Go FIU.

This was a winning drive.

We got the dub, and that is what counts.

Pros:
Gardner had a 100 yard game.
Mcgough with 328 yards passing.
Julian Williams with a great game as well - 129 yards receiving.
Run game was able to impose its will at times.
Huge drive in crunch time to get the winning TD.

Cons:
Still more penalties than you'd like - but WAY better than UCF.
Only 17 points despite 465 yards on offense.
Special teams still needs some fine tuning

Regardless, I am CELEBRATING to be at 1-1 going into next week. This was all but a must win, and thats what we did.

Congrats Panther Fam!

(And much thanks to UAB for their hospitality)

Agree with Roary and would add

Positives:
Held Alcorn below 200 passing yards, and below 100 yards rushing.

A1, A2 and Phillips are the backs moving forward

Had a couple of sacks

No injuries.

A little hard to tell without actually watching the game, but it seems like we were in quite the dogfight with a D-2 team which had no more than a middling offense. I am happy we won, for it would have been just about unbearable otherwise, but I think this showing suggests it is going to be a long season: I mean, our lone pushover game ends up as a nail-biter? Until things happen on the field to prove otherwise, I'd have to say we are projecting 1-11, with 3-9 probably an over-achievement.

BD's comments are top-class. At the end of the day, there are a lot more important things going right now on than football and it is something of a miracle that the game was even played and that our team was able to focus at all on the game. Whatever else might happen this season, kudos to them, the coaches, and--yes--the higher administration for this trip and the win. I suspect that they will be a very tightly knit group from here on out. And here is the best to us all. I hope that storm wobbles just a little more west, though that would not bode well for our brothers in the panhandle. Good luck!

“We gave Coach Davis a game ball after the game,” said McGough, who finished 21 of 33 passing for 328 yards and led the game-winning seven-play, 80-yard drive after a 49-yard field goal by Alcorn State’s Corey McCullough had tied the score at 10 with 3:54 to play.

“We love him and he loves us. We couldn’t be happier with Coach.”
