Thought I'd share my thoughts from the comments on the Herald's article from last night. Initially, I was just going to write "Go Panthers" but went a tad long.

This team is playing with essentially the same players as last year, but with a lot more heart. The first game against UCF was a blow out, but the Golden Knights are arguably the best team in the state so in hindsight that should've been expected. FIU seems to be improving each week. Although FIU lost last week against MTSU, they were always within striking distance as the final score resembled junk points at the end of the game. Tulane was the second best team FIU has played against this season, and had a clear objective going into the game of cutting off their run game. Ron Turner's teams gave up, this team does not. What different this year vs last? Butch is making adjustments throughout the games, the team believes in him and deliver with more passion and heart, and we are finally executing on the McGough - Owens connection.

Other positives this year include special teams. We finally have both a punter and a kicker, which was always something fans were frustrated with. Just how the U.S. can't find a winning starting 11 for their soccer team in a country of 350M, we always wondered why FIU couldn't find a $$$$ kicker and punter. That has finally been resolved as Jose Borregales is 9-10 of which half of those completed field goals were beyond 35 yards. We've also pinned opponents inside their own 10 yard line on kickoffs on many occassions.

I do have some qualms too. Despite our improvements, we still have some relatively tough games ahead of us. Both our OLine and DLine are undersized, although the latter overachieved yesterday in stopping Tulane's running game which is highly ranked. We can't expect SEC sized lines in CUSA, but we need more height and width in that area. Butch will have to recruit in big bow corn country across the midwest. Additionally, Lane Kiffin @ FAU has done more with less. Forget FAU's 3-3 record, they are much better than that. Another intangilble is continued regional apathy for the program. Brass has to do a better job of making the program relevant within local media circles. We do get decent national exposure, as ESPN chose FIU with the upset of the day during the massively popular College Gameday. But locally, coverage continues to disappoint. Granted, we can't cut the same checks that others apparently do to buy coverage and airtime, but we can do better.

Regardless, unless we stink up the back half of our season, FIU will go bowling for the first time since the Mario Cristobal era. A great achievement in Butch's first year as head coach at FIU.

Go Panthers!

I don't know what to expect from this team. If the team that played Tulane and the second half against Charlotte shows up each week, we can potentially win 3 more games the rest of the season. If the MTSU or first half Charlotte team shows, we'll be lucky to win 1 more game.

I think MTSU will find some holes in their defense... hopefully BD's staff is taking notes.
