Interesting article on the battle for the starting WR spots in a world without TO or Williams:

Quote:
Davis said sophomore Bryce Singleton and Florida Gators transfer CJ Worton are battling for one starting spot.

“Singleton is getting pushed an awful lot by Worton,” Davis said. “Those guys are having daily battles.”

Davis also said sophomore Shemar Thornton “is in a real competitive situation” with juniors Tony Gaiter and Darius Scott for another starting spot.

Jordan Underwood, an early-entry freshman from Orlando, “is showing huge growth and development”, feeling more confident as he learns the offense, Davis said.

Again, this competition will only help the team. Can't wait until some of the incoming class of 2018 guys get here too. I haven't seen Worton play much yet, but I think the most talented guys are Thornton and Singleton. Underwood has a lot of potential as he continues to develop in the weight room.

We got, on paper, a very good class of WR in the 2018 class. I am hoping they make an impact very quickly and we can add more depth with the 2019 kids. Its one of the positions i'm most worried about, our fastest guys are in the 4.5s ? Come on we are in SFL not Nebraska.

Yeah I found that pretty surprising and disappointing too. But, to be honest, with everyone being laser-timed now, 4.4s and 4.5s are the new 4.3s. Nonetheless, I would agree we could certainly still improve our speed as a team. I'm not sure what the incoming class of WRs run, but DeMarcus Townsend is one of the fastest guys in the nation.

No one is going to argue that you can't coach speed, but we have had plenty of burners in the past who still could not create separation unless they were running from the authorities. 4.4 will be just fine with an improved line, adept coaching, and a QB who can deliver the ball. What were TY's times, btw?

TY was in the 4.3s . I would be ok with 4.4s too, but article says our fastest receivers are in the 4.5s, just as a reference Tourek Williams ran in the 4.5s at the combine and he was a DL.

I meant to type in "4.5 will be fine." We won games with those same guys after T.O. went out, and they ought to be improved as route-runners. QB is the real issue, I think, not the receivers. As for Tourek, if he came back as a tight end would he still have eligibility left?

Seriously? Tourek ran 4.9 but we just need footballers. 4.5 WR can Kill 4.3 DB anyway once they can run routes. Jerry Rice never ran a 4.4 or lower. all we need is technique..

Butch has recruited several receivers that are physical mismatches with most CBs, their speed isn't an issue.

Only two WRs ran a sub 4.4 40 at the NFL combine this year. Most ran between 4.45–4.55.

Well, Dynasty, there you have it. Clearly we played Tourek at the wrong position.
