So some pretty big news today.... Isaiah Brown announced he will be wearing #4 this season via Twitter:

I think Ike is a fantastic player, with legitimate NFL potential, but I think TY's number should have been retired for a number of reasons. I think FIU messed up here. What do you guys think? If Ike says a number doesn't define him, then why switch? Why not make #13 another to be retired?

I'm not sure where Reinier (who posts on this board), got this picture from, but here is Ike in the #4 jersey (and others):

I don’t think TY’s number was ever officially retired, just done in-officially. I don’t mind that much this news. Let’s play football!!

Fanatic, you are correct, it was never officially retired, but it was no coincidence that no one has worn #4 since he left to the NFL. I remember TY tweeting something about it when Anthony Jones wanted to wear the #4. I guess things have changed. But yes, I agree, let's play football already.

Actually, it is quite common on teams for a number associated with a great player to be given to a player considered a leader and impact player.

Dynasty, the pic is from FIU Athletics instagram account, on their story they have a bunch of shots from the photo/video shoot going on today. We got some mean/strong looking football players. def an upgrade over previous seasons.

You are correct. This number has traditionally been #7 on the defense (Gaitor, Cyp, McKinnon, Silva, etc.). I guess we are also bringing the #4 back.

I totally agree. I think everyone in that picture has a real shot at playing in the NFL (Butch too! jk).

T.Y.'s #4 should be retired. There's no question about that. C'mon FIU, get it done. Maybe they're waiting for him to retire from professional football.

I think Antwan Barnes deserves strong consideration also for having his number retired, just based on his work ethic and for helping put FIU on the map, even before T.Y.

I think #19 should be retired.
