It's very possible he had signed alerady for a while, but this is the first "confirmation" he has actually signed with FIU.

Rivals.com is now including Eric Frederick (6-7/230 Forward) as a player that "Signed an LOI" with FIU, rather than just "committed" to FIU. I expect a writeup soon, perhaps in their JUCO board. He will come in to FIU and play as a Sophomore, since he was only a Freshman last season at Highland CC. He was a 3rd team JUCO All American, and was also selected to the All Tournament team at the JUCO Nationals last season (along with fellow FIU signee Kavon Lytch, a PF from Midland CC)... With Frederick, we have 6 JUCO signees plus one transfer from Arkansas (6-9 PF Brandon Moore) as newcomers for next season.

He played for a team that ended up playing in the JUCO Championships..along with fellow FIU signee, Stephon Weaver.

Frederick's averages:

19.53 points per game...led team #26 scorer in Nation.
7.56 rebounds per game...led team
1.1 blocks per game
2.22 assists per game
56.23% Field Goal Percentage
43.06% from 3-pt. Field Goal %...not bad for a forward.
77.56% Free Throw Shooting...

Different write ups on Frederick...Here's one from one of his games at the JUCO Championships, from a scout report:

Quote:
2010 Checklist

Eric Frederick, PF, Highland- Talk about an intense competitor. Stashed at Highland by the TCU staff, Frederick is a complete and total animal in the lane. He’s going to try and dunk the ball every time he touches it and if you try and body him up he’ll try and dunk you as well. He sprints the floor and leads teammates by example. Went for 21 and nine on 8-10 shooting from the field in 26 minutes of action.

Well, indeed a story is out in Jucojunction.com right now, where the writer states he spoke to Highland CC assistant who told him Frederick did sign with FIU and will play up to 3 years with us, after following former TCU...and now FIU...assistant coach, Anthony Anderson to FIU. He was previously committed...and signed a letter of intent...to TCU.

Not much more written...that was it in a nutshell....the rest of the story is just what we already posted in terms of his averages, and other JUCOS signing with us....

if we have frederick and Lytch and we keep Freddy...

that is ferocious front line, plus Gacesa has shown big leaps of improvement every single season.

Plus we have Otero who was supposed to be really good (we didnt get to see him becasue of injuries last year).

FIU is really looking scary.

WKU is still top dog, i'd be happy if we finished second to them.

After all these years of finishing near...or at...the bottom of the SBC, finishing second would be pretty amazing!! I don't expect...although I do hope and see it's possible...for us to finish 2nd or 3rd overall in the SBC this coming year....but, hey...we will have to see how good these recruits really are...

It is exciting indeed for FIU Basketball.....
