Would you sign Rick Pitino as FIU men's head basketball coach for 2018-2019?

+2X National Champion
+PG has some relationship with him
+We gave his son his start
+PG likes big names

-Scandal (s)
-He may just want to retire after this mess at Louisville

Wish we could take a poll here.

Of course i would hire him.

The interesting thing will be who L-Ville hires.

If they are not given the Death Sentence, i think a top candidate to clean that up is his son. That would be a smart move.

Hell no. Reports coming out he was the one directly funneling money to players. I don't want our program to get shut down.

Good luck dealing with the show cause if you do. That alone makes him untouchable.

That being said... we did give his son his first head coaching gig... and if he does want a place to resurrect his career once the show cause expires, I can think of way worse spots than FIU.

If PG's still around by then and FIU continues to stink it up in men's hoops, it wouldn't surprise me.

LOL...

This is a mute point. No way he even considers coming here. Not a chance.

Loisville to FIU? LOL

No way he comes here for 2018-2019. It would have to be a situation like Butch Davis, no one hires him after the scandal and the fire burns so much he will stoop down to FIU's level. Butch at least has the South Florida talent for Football, we do not have nearly as much talent in the basketball realm. I absolutely would take Rick, no question, as we are in a horrible state. The only light we had was the one season we had his son as basketball coach. However, no way Rick Pitino would come to FIU.

I wouldn't completely discount it, assuming he eventually becomes less radioactive... and that would probably take at least 5 years or when the show-cause he'll eventually get expires.

You have to think giving his son his first head coaching gig has to count for something... and, if he really wants to coach again, what P5 school touches him? I can't imagine one of them would be nuts enough to do it. He would almost certainly have to go G5 or lower and FIU has just a good a chance there as any other, if only for his son's ties to the program.

If i remember the story correctly, it was Rick Pitino who in a conversation with Pete Garcia, connected his son with FIU job. We didnt just get him off Indeed so there is a connection there.
