There will almost certainly be NCAA compliance issues.

FIU would be crazy to hire him now. Straight crazy. Especially with all the legal issues still unresolved. That's just opening yourself up to all kinds of problems.

In another 5 years or so... maybe... but not now.

Hopefully, whoever comes in will be good enough for us to not have to worry about that.

Also... where are you guys hearing about Pitino to FIU? Just curious.

On this board? There are similar posts on message boards across America for other mid-major programs after it was on the news yesterday that he wanted to coach regardless of level as long as the program believed in him.

It’s likely just a pipe dream. I’m sure some program will take the risk as the potential rewards if he ends up being clean are huge. Of course so are the risks of penalties if he ends up being hit with a show cause. Also, at his age, I think Rick ends up being loyal and sticking with the program that had faith in him.

A study of the record over the past 20 years suggests to me that Coach Evans should stay on as compliance officer and that Shakey Rodriguez should be brought back as head coach.

No, again with Shakey, just no.

This is going on way too long. If they wanted to get rid of him, wouldn't they have done it already?

Maybe they’re waiting for the contact to expire? His hiring was announced on April 15th, 2013. Not really sure if that has anything to do with it, but just a thought. Maybe we hear news closer to April 15th, 2018

They should still just owe him the balance of his contract so I doub' t that is it. I think PG is just taking his time seeing who else is available like he did with Turtle Thomas whose contract also was about to expire when he was let go. PG may also want to attend the Final Four to get input from other coaches like he has done in the past before he decides his next move. It's not like he is under a time crunch to let Evans go before he is owed a retention bonus per his contract or anything like that. Once Evans' contract runs out he is done unless it get's extended which I don't see happening.

Good Point EngUM, Pete has used the Final 4 as a recruiting ground in the past. Thats where he got Pitino Junior.

Coach Stallings from Pitt got fired. He might be a good option. Seems like a strong recruiter.

God, no. Please. Anyone but him.

I'm really starting to wonder if Evans will stick around another season. It's hard to do a good coach search when you don't officially fire the old one.

I know PG's waited until the Final Four in the past, but you would think he'd have announced it by now so FIU can start getting applications in. Even if you know who you want, you still have to do that kind of stuff.

Stallings could probably get better options than FIU, I would think. But I wouldn't argue if we got him. He would definitely be an upgrade over Evans.

Maybe he doesn't see the rush. Evans' contract expires in April and PG may still be trying to see who is available and a realistic option before deciding which way to go. He may want to keep the option of retaining Evans on an interim basis. Either way he would need to make an announcement even if retaining Evans for a year.
