MIAMI (Nov. 15, 2018) – FIU student-athletes posted a school-best NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR), continuing the Panthers' long-standing tradition of continued success in the classroom.

The NCAA released its GSR scores on Wednesday, with FIU recording its highest all student-athlete rate for the fourth-straight year. The score is a measure of the four-year cohort from 2008-11.

Three Panther programs – women's basketball, women's tennis and softball – earned perfect scores of 100 percent. The perfect scores for women's basketball and softball were firsts for the programs, while women's tennis' 100 percent was the team's sixth-straight.

Four teams registered scores of 90 percent or better, including women's swimming and diving (97), women's volleyball (94), women's track and field/cross country (93) and men's basketball (90).

"I am proud of the work our student-athletes have done in the classroom," FIU Executive Director of Sports and Entertainment Pete Garcia said. "The drive for academic excellence by our student-athletes raises the bar each year. Our coaches, faculty and Student-Athlete Academic Center (SAAC) are all responsible for this success and I congratulate them for our impressive results."

In addition to the highest all student-athlete GSR in FIU history, 11 Panther teams set or tied record scores for their respective sports (baseball, football, men's basketball, men's track and field/cross country, men's soccer, softball, women's basketball, women's track and field/cross country, women's swimming and diving and women's tennis).

Additionally, three programs ranked first among C-USA schools for their respective sports with women's basketball (100), women's tennis (100), softball (100) topping the league standings.

The NCAA Graduation Success Rate is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree. The report represents data from first-time freshmen, student-athletes who entered at midyear, and student-athletes who transferred into FIU between 2008 and 2011, but excludes student-athletes who transfer from the university in good academic standing.
