Too bad....I mean, these budget cuts have decimated the "spirit" part of FIU.....I would hope that somehow this can be resolved by some type of donation or other type of arrangement.

BTW, this is the proper forum to bring out this not so good news. Not the other forums it was posted as well...

I remember reading a month or two ago that the Athletic Department had to cut $1 million from its budget. I wonder what else we will soon learn in relation to Athletics. I mean....not that I want this but....maybe one sport?...I know several positions were, supposedly, to be eliminated.....tough economic environment at this time....

a Cheerleader friend asked me if we could send emails voicing our protest to this.

"Please show your support for the effort and hard work they put in to the school. Please email Pete Garcia pgarcia@fiu.edu, President Modesto Maidique Modesto.Maidique@fiu.edu, President-designate Mark.Rosenberg@fiu.edu, and VP of Student Affairs Rosa Jones rosa.jones@fiu.edu to show your support on this issue."

Yes, everyone, our priorities should be....band, cheerleaders and then our Stadium. OK!!! Tell me again which athletic program do you run? That's possibly the most ridiculous statement ever, we should have held off our facilities improvement in order to save the entertainment? Don't get me wrong, I am incredibly disappointed in this development but wins and losses are far more critical to building a fan base. Facilities have a direct impact in the quality of our recruits, the band and cheerleaders do not.

+1

I am terribly disappointed as well, and realize having both the band and the cheerleaders is part of the thing in college football. Unfortunately, the band is a bit more out of the hands of athletiics, since they only funded 14% of the band...whose annual budget might be $330-$350K if a story in The Beacon is right. Now, the cheerleader's cost...now tabbed at $45,000 annually is more under the control of Athletics...I would think with a concerted effort, those monies can be raised by all of us....and particularly them....to create a more independently funded group....Maybe that's the real thought behind all this...and not a bad initiative.

Now, it's a no brainer what is more important, if you have to rank it, in terms of the football, baseball, and basketball programs....Remember that $1 million HAS to be cut from somewhere....Where do you want to see those cuts?

A new story in The Herald:

Let's do it....let's get in contact with them, and try to help them be there....

Hopefully, something along those lines could be done with the band as well...The thing with cheerleaders is that it appeared to be so sudden...the band situation was known for months now....
