Nine universities in the state made this year’s list of 230 top National Colleges, up from seven last year.

Two South Florida schools also showed progress: NSU was ranked for the first time last year, with FIU joining this year.
FIU improved this year in alumni giving and selectivity. More high school counselors and administrators at other colleges gave the school good ratings this year. And although its graduation rate (56 percent) didn’t improve, the school benefited from a change in how these were measured.
“We don’t have many universities in South Florida that have rankings in U.S. News & World Report, so we’re very proud of the fact that we’re moving up, and we expect to continue to improve in the rankings,” FIU Provost Kenneth Furton said.
